N'Jinje and the Banyumbas: |
Healing music & dance is one of Africas most Ancient & revered art forms. The power of the drums combined with m’bira, (Zimbabwean thumb piano) songs & dances is still an integral part of both ancient & modern African Culture used to create extremely harmonious states referred to as Njinji. Njinji is an intense energetic field created by interweaving rhythms, melodies & harmonies that evoke dance, healing & elated emotional states of being.
A Banyumba is a series of 3 or 4 rhythms that flow into each other raising the energy as they are played. They follow a sequence representing - Earth, Water, Air & Fire. It is a way to intentionally move energy & has a strong healing effect on the participants. All drum rhythms, dances, mbira pieces & songs will be related, connecting all participants.

one of the most ancient ZIMBABWEAN traditions is a community gathering that is focused on healing & celebration using music, dance & storytelling. It will take place around a fire under the stars (weather permitting) or in the centers Temple. This is an opportunity to experience the music in it’s true cultural context & really experience the true power of Njinji.

made in class was astounding. The time with other students and teachers outside
of class was valuable. Thank you so much!!” - Susannah Breaden, from Victoria.

recreational to do during the holidays for the whole family. I loved the music
